TUTORIAL: DRAWING TREES WITH FACES (PART 3)

Here I am putting in some "eyebrows", which are really just horizontal pieces of bark. I try to connect the lines from the bark to some of the lines in the facial features to blend them together. I've made the shadow under his lip do the same.

More shading in the face and continuing the bark up to the top of the trunk. Putting a lot of deep creases and shading around the face bark with make the tree look like it is older. You might not do this as much for a tree that is supposed to be more youthful looking.

Now I am continuing the bark up the main branches. This is a good place to make the branches look twisty. I do it essentially in the same way I make unicorn horns , only I use irregular spacing and bumpier lines.

More bark and shading! Where the overlapping occurs in the branches, I make the shadows darker in the branch underneath around where the lines cross. This makes a further illusion of depth.

Now I am toning down the busyness of the dark lines on the bark by going over them with an eraser. I am generally making shortish vertical lines through the dark horizontal lines with the eraser. Again, nothing uniform here, crooked is best!

For a finishing touch, you can make some leaves for the branches. I've done a bit of a messy job here, just a general indication of where the leaves are!
The end. :)
